How does a petite, run down joint near Harvard University become so loved? Three words: Puerto Rican food. Izzy’s restaurant is owned by Israel and Carmel Maldonado, an elderly Puerto Rican couple, who migrated to the United States in the 1980’s. They decided to open up a cafeteria style restaurant and do what they do best, cook “criollo” or Caribbean creole food.  From  fried plantains known  as “tostones” to sofrito flavored rice, this welcoming joint stays true to Puerto Rico’s recipes and cooking brands.

Izzy’s is located at 169 Harvard St.Cambridge MA /// 617-661-3910.
